Sound

Diegetic sound: is sound which is part of the film world we are wstching. This can be dialogue, music or sound effects which some froma source within the film world. The music in this instance will be from a source in the film which we acknowledge could actually be producing music, for example a CD player or jukebox.
Diegetic sound can occur either on screen on or off screen; in other words we either see the person or object that is making the sound ( on screen) or we dont ( off screen).

Non-diedetic sound
: is sound which we do not revcognise as part of the film world such as a voice-over or background music.



sound bridge: A sound bridge is when a sound or a piece of music is bridg'd with the two shots

Parrellel sound: When we watch a film, the sound that we hear usually complements the image that we see on the cinema screen(children playing, happy noises)

contrapuntal sound : however when we are watching these happy scene on the beach but hear the sinister sounding 'dur dur' theme which signals the arrival of the shark as in the film jaws this is known as contrapuntal sound because the sound we hear does not fit with the image we see on the cinema screen.

How is sound used to convey anna's psychosomatic illness ?

- the orchestra slowly building within the short clip, building to signify the insanity of the women going insane.
-the non-diegetic sound is building slowly as if ready to blow inside her head.
-When the women see's the screaming picture of maddusa the orchestra has a sharpe noise to signify the picture screaming at her.
